Alan Jones founded Film 4 Frightfest, the UK’s premier horror film festival, and has authored several books, including Dario Argento: The Man, the Myths and the Magic, published by FAB Press.
Nicolas Winding Refn has worked with Ryan Gosling, Kristin Scott Thomas, Mads Mikkelsen, Tom Hardy, Christina Hendricks and David Beckham, and is currently directing a new feature film starring Elle Fanning and Keanu Reeves.

THE ACT OF SEEING is a personal aesthetic expression, an album of poster images artfully put together to represent a fantasy world I can never now experience. The cultural environment these films were created in was long gone by the time my family moved to New York in 1978 when I was 8 years old. I was forbidden to walk down 42nd Street because my mother warned me it was such a dangerous and scary place. Of course that completely entranced me, mythologizing the place further, making it even more exciting and alluring. Now that I’m older, and have my hands on these unexpected posters, I’m able to envision what it must have been like to be a compulsive cinemagoer during this thrilling time, then enter that world vicariously in my over-active imagination through my prized items. It’s why I present these posters to you now, for you to do the same. ~ Nicolas Winding Refn

Just stunning. I have several movie poster books, not a single one comes even close to this masterpiece. Every poster is beautifully restored where necessary (creases, pin holes, etc) and each movie has a little text about it. The book is massive, very well produced, great paper, slides into a heavy duty slipcase that even has a little string mounted inside so you can pull the book out easier. If you're into exploitation movies (and/or art) this is a must have. By far the best movie poster book from a production value, that I've ever seen. An other classic from FAB Press, they know what they do.

Beautiful

Jones' text provides a nice history of exploitation cinema, while not complete by any means, showcases many of the heavy hitters involved in production and distribution. Limited appeal for the casual fan, but as a paper collector who owns many poster books, this is the absolute finest that I own.

The best thing of this book is the cover!

One of the worst book I ever purchased. The best thing about this book is the cover. Most of the posters in this book have been published on other books which I have in my collection and this book misses quite a lot of the best ones so in a way if it's true that he bought this poster's collection he didn't get the best one :D maybe that's why he decided to make a book so that he could get the money spent back. Silly me that I contributed but I will get rid of it as soon as I have an opportunity. It's heavy and big and it just take space on my shelves. For the ones interested in film poster there are so many titles out there, less pretentious and richer of images than this one. Hope this helps.
